Cafe Mix, The Rocks

The colourful entrance of Cafe Mix in Shangri - La Hotel Sydney

Mocha, CCC, Herby, Centa and I decided to take the advantages of the "We Love Sydney" promotion, and here we are, at the Cafe Mix in Shangri - La Hotel on the last day of the promotion. It was a buy one get one free promotion, so 2 adults can dine in with the price of one ($85 for 2 adults). Despite the negative experiences from family and friends in the past, we decided to give it a go.

California Roll, Wasabi shaped into a leaf, Oysters

The sushi were made on spot by a sushi chef. They were alright, taste a bit like the sushi from sushi train. The oysters were firm and plump. They were very fresh and full of the lovely salty sea water taste.

Toss your own salad, Prawns, Blue Swimmer Crabs

The salad of the day was Greek Salad. The feta marinated
with lemon and herbs are delicious, especially tossed into the salad with some stuffed green olives. The prawns were sweet and fresh. I didn't try the crabs ... not a big fan of blue swimmer.

Bread Rolls with Butter, Lobsters, Balmain Bugs

The bread rolls looks good ... but I have to give it a pass ... they will be too filling for me. The Lobsters were OK ... a bit bland ... So all of us end up having it with a generous serve of curry sauce on top. The balmain bug was hard and dry ... they were probably been stored in the freezer for too long.

Sago and fruits in milk, Chinese style stir fried vegetables, Steamed variety of buns

The Sago and fruits in milk was disappointing. It was lack of sweetness. I wish they used coconut milk instead of milk. The vegetables were good, soft and sweet. I didn't try the buns, I prefer to have them when I go to yum cha.

Salt and pepper Barramundi, Roast Pork, Steam vegetables

The salt and pepper Barramundi might looked a bit awkward, but it was nice. The skin was crispy and the flesh was soft and smooth. The roast pork looks look, I only tried a little bit of it, so I cannot remember what it tastes like :P Since I was in love the Chinese style stir fried vegetables, I didn't try the steamed version.

Saffron rice, Indian vegetarian curry, Naan and Pappadum with various Indian pickles and Raita.

The rice smells lovery and the Pappadum were very crispy. Unfortunately, the Naan bread were hard as a cardboard. The pickles and raita were tangy and refreshing. The curry is rich and thick. Delicious on rice, and on top of the lobster.

Gelato ... Strawberry, Coconut, Passionfruit and Chocolate

I was misleading by the the menu, it said one of the flavour was lemon. So I had a big scope of the white one ... and it turned out to be an artificial flavoured Coconut gelato. It was watery and horrible. The strawberry one tasted a bit like strawberry jelly. The passionfruit and the chocolate one were alright.

Chocolate Fountain, The dessert counter, The wall of lollies as the display wall

The Chocolate fountain must be working too hard and getting old. It shake pretty badly and the flow would gradually slow down. Then the chocolate would get stuck on the top level and only a little bit of them would drip down to the next level. The decor of the Cafe Mix was very stylish. They had a display wall of lollies, a display wall of tea leaves and a display wall of spices.

.
Opera Cake, Lemon and almond cake, Chocolate Mousse cake

The opera cake was delicious. Not too sweet and had a layer of crunchy praline as the middle layer. The lemon and almond cake was moist and full of citrus flavour
. I prefer to eat this type of dense cake for afternoon tea. The chocolate mousse cake was pretty average.

Baked cheese cake 1, Strawberry Mousse cake, Baked cheese cake 2

Both of the baked cheese cake were good. Moist and not too crumbly, just they way how I like my cheese cake to be done. The Strawberry Mousse cake was fluffy and light as air, thus full of strawberry taste. This is one of the high light for the night. The Macaroons on the top of the cake was a bit too soft, but the framboise filling was sticky and fruity.

Chocolate Tart, Cannoli filled with custard, Apple crumble tart

The chocolate tart was lack of flavour and hard as a rock. Thumbs down. The cannoli was crispy, but the custard was a bit bland. When I was typing this entry for the blog, I realized I totally forgot to try the apple crumble tart :P

Mini Meringue nest with fruits, Creme Brulee, Coffee and tea

The meringue was quite crunchy, but I prefer mine soft and chewy in the middle. The creme brulee was rich and creamy, and the toffee on the top is nicely caramelized. The Coffee was very strong. It would be good as a pick me up morning coffee.

Cheese Platter

I love cheese. But my stomach didn't have any more space left after dessert ... so I didn't try any of the cheese. What a pity !

Will I go back again ? Probably not in a long time ... especially if I have to pay the full price ($85) for it ... definitely not worth it. The selection of savoury dishes was too small.

Also ... what we have been experience in the ladies was far too filthy and disgusting to be mentioned on the blog. It ruins the whole night ...
